TLDR: the combat is inherently riskier than other far cry games, and especially in the early game you can get into nigh-unwinnable fights by aggroing certain animals. Unless you want to spend the whole early game (i.e. until you can ride a sabertooth) crouch walking across the map, I would advise against permadeath. #1.
At night you must lure the sabretooth to those traps to weaken it (a health bar appears) until you beat it (take sabretooth health to 0). There's a proven method for taming Sabertooth. it also works with bears . All you need are Spears ( preferably 3+ ) and many Baits. First drop a bait as soon as possible. I tested a tactic I've used in many other permadeath games like Doom Eternal, Far Cry Primal etc.. and it worked. Never played Primal until recently, but played 3, 4, and 5. Decided to play survival permadeath with second chance for my first play through. Made it about 10 hours according to steam (18% progress in game), spread out over a few weeks. I have never felt so immersed in a game. The fear of death mixed with the setting just thrilled me. Far Cry Primal Perma-Death. So I played for about 6 hours on Survivor/Perma Death mode, Just finished upgrading my spear to #4 (this is before i even started the owl companion quest) did some quest and got to the part where you have to defend your village and then go attack the Udam village. .
