Most of the time, you should be at a complete stop, completely moving your wheel one way or the other before applying any gas. Then you go very slow and line it up as well as you can. Press the clutch all the way down, apply a bit of throttle (engine revs a bit). Now start raising the clutch slowly to find the spot where it "bites" (revs go down).
